2010 WORLD SERIES PREDICTION (Or, HALLOWEEN WEIRDNESS?)

.
Very superstitious, writing's on the wall,
Very superstitious, ladder’s ‘bout to fall,
Thirteen month old baby, broke the lookin' glass
Seven years of bad luck, the good things in your past.
.

.
The 2010 World Series between the San Francrisco Giants and the Texas Rangers is already two games old, and the Giants hold a two games to none lead in the best of seven series.

Game One, played on Wednesday, October 27th, ended with the Giants on top 11 to 7.

Game Two, on Thursday, October 28th, saw the Giants winning 9 to nothing.

Thus far in the 2010 Series, that’s a total of 20 runs for the Giants and 7 runs for the Rangers. Looks like a mismatch, right? At this point, the Rangers are ultra-ultra-underdogs to win the World Series, right?

Fifty-one times in World Series history, a team has found itself in a two-game deficit to start the Series, and forty of those teams wound up losing the series. And the last 11 teams with the home field advantage (as the Giants have) that jumped out to a 2-0 lead, also prevailed in the Series. Clearly, the Texas Rangers will need to climb out of a big hole if they’re to win this thing. Only a fool would pick them to win the World Series now, right?

I am that fool.
Put me on record as saying – now, an hour and a half before the start of Game 3 – that the Texas Rangers are going to win the 2010 World Series.

How do I know? Am I psychic? Did I get some inside information from Heavenly realms?

Well, the answers to those three questions are:
1) I don’t;
2) No; and
3) Uhm… maybe.

Very superstitious, nothin' more to say,
Very superstitious, the devil's on his way,
Thirteen month old baby, broke the lookin' glass,
Seven years of bad luck, good things in your past

Something occurred last night that suddenly gave me a flash of suspicion that the Rangers might win this thing yet. Call it a premonition. I know that "Uhp! I'm An Idiot!" for coming here and posting such a farfetched prediction. But if I’m right, then it means that my deceased Ma contacted me from “the other side” to tell me not to give up hope on the Rangers yet. And if it turns out I’m wrong, it simply means that what happened last night was a mere coincidence. We shall see.

If my prediction turns out correct, I will return here and explain how I arrived at it. But if I turn out to be all wet, we’ll just forget this ever happened, OK?

When you believe in things that you don't understand,
Then you suffer,
Superstition ain't the way . . .

Now, go get yourself a Dodger Dog and a beer and enjoy the game, my fellow American sports fans.

"Go Rangers!"

Dodger Bluely Yours,

Once a person has experienced a Dodger Dog they will never again even utter the words "Phillies Frank" or "Fenway Frank".

    Yup. "They shoulda planned ahead".
And that's why I'm "Dodgerly Blue".

Nope, nobody else knows or cares.
And the ONLY reason I care is because the San Francrisco Giants are involved, and I HATES the Giants.

  4. McDodger Dogg-

See-you trashed the Phillie Frank and ya jinxed yerself.

    San Fran takes another game.

Quite frankly (pun intended) I have to be at death's door to eat any form of hot dog, so I doubt even if I ever went to a Dodger's game I'd try the dog.

But I'll bet the last time I at a Phillies Frank, Carter was still in office.

I have been a vegetarian since the end of 1985, which tells you how long it's been since I've had a Dodger Dog.

I don't know what they are like anymore, but back in the day, grilled Dodger Dogs were legendary in the minds of Angelenos.

Then one year, the Dodger organization gave the concession rights to a new company and immediately they stopped grilling the Dodger Dogs. Los Angeles nearly went up in flames! I'm not kidding, the outrage was palpable. "At night sometimes it seemed you could hear the whole damn city crying."

For a couple of weeks, letters of complaint poured into the Los Angeles Times Sports Section. It seems to me now that 4 of every 5 Letters To The Editor were complaints about the changed Dodger Dog.

By week 3, the city was on the verge of exploding in a riot of Rodney King proportions. Next thing one knew: The Dodger organization was happy to announce that the new concessions company was bringing back the grilled Dodger Dog - IMMEDIATELY!

Now, if only people cared as much about bad government as they do about bad hot dogs...

Anyway, that's a true story and it still makes me laugh. I have never seen so many people in agreement about any one thing as the Angelenos were about restoring the traditional grilled Dodger Dogs to Dodger Stadium.

My friend Pooh and I have attended a couple of games at Fenway Park (Boston), and although this was well into my vegetarian years, Pooh told me that the Fenway Frank couldn't begin to stack up with the Dodger Dog. I take his word for it.

As far as this World Series goes: With San FranCrisco now up 3 games to 1, it appears all but over (I can hear the fat lady warming up her voice); it will go down as the most disappointing World Series for me. And if/when 'Crisco takes game 4, it will be the saddest day... EVER! (And consider that I'm really not even much of a baseball fan anymore. Think how I'd be feeling if I still cared about the game!)
