“EMILY”, YOU DON’T KNOW ME . . .

.
This is for a very special someone named "Emily" . . . or Lisa, or Cindy, or Yolanda, or . . .

Well... you know who you are you don’t know who you are.

A BOY LEFT WAITING

The warm safety of daylight yields to the evening
Half of the lake shudders under the moon
While the rusty sky quietly tip-toes away
To cower in darkness

He lies on the new dock and listens to the water
As it gently spanks the shore in contempt
And in the midst of this solitary scolding
He can do nothing but think back on that dream

...and recall her soft face and tender ways

But he knows his arrival is
Years too late
She will not return on this evening
Or any other

There is one duck on the water
Drifting with the current
And, of course, somewhere across the lake
A lonely dog cries into the night

We will walk on frosted fields of juniper and lamplight,
we will get it right . . . someday . . .
somewhere in time.

*POOF!*

Hey, long time no hea-- er... "read"! Thanks for checking in.

On this blog, I reserve the right to be as sappy as I wanna be (...on every third blue moon only).

Nevertheless, you have no idea how close I came to deleting this one.

I thought about deleting it last night, shortly after posting it. And then again earlier today, at my doctor's office - while lying underneath some contraption that measures one's bone density - I was pretty sure I should delete this blog bit as soon as I got home.

Your 2-word comment has saved it from a long, cold trip into a Cyberspace Black Hole somewhere.

I thank you and "Emily - whenever I may find her - thanks you.

  2. You may be one of the most unknowable people I've ever... er... known. You have depths that Emily would spend years plumbing and never reach bottom.

I wish you'd pursued your Emily, or would pursue her still. Even if the time is short.

Ha! That actually seems like something I would write.

Either you've been hanging around me for too long or I've been stealing your stuffs for years.

Either way, it'z all good. :o)

  4. Reminds me of a story I heard once when I was drunk and driving by Bass Lake...not necessarily in that order.

It's in my mind, but the light is dim. You need to remind me what you're referring to.

Obviously, you know some of the background to this bit, because you mentioned "Bass Lake", and the "new dock" that's referred to in my poem-thing was indeed located in Bass Lake.

I seem to vaguely recall you making a trip there. Is that correct? (But I wasn't with you, right?) And I also remember that I made a return trip there with my Pa (in "The Terrill Era"), and it was that later trip which was the basis for the poem-thing and the reference to a "new dock".

OK, so what's the poop, man? Fill me in and straighten me out.

  6. Nice! But I feel obligated to let you know that after the end of the post I got "Jennifer Juniper" stuck in my head. Thanks a lot. :-)

    "Jennifer Juniper" eh?

I'd never even heard of that. I thought: WHA-? And then I had to Google it.

Oh, so it's by ol' Mister "They call me Hello Fellow" huh?

Well, okie-dokie, but he weren't in the same league as Simple Simon & Arty Garfunky, I doesn't think.
