THE DÉJÀ VU BLOGFEST

.

I just learned about today’s ‘Déjà Vu Blogfest’ by visiting Julie Fedderson’s ‘Gypsy In My Soul’ blog. OK, I’ll play along – what the hell.

The basic idea seems to be this:

"This is your chance to do some major catching up, and re-post a favorite blog post of your own that NEEDS to see the light of day one more time."

Well, I’m not sure this “needs” to see the light of day one mo’ time, but I think it was possibly the most humorous blog bit I ever posted here at ‘STUFFS’ – at least to me it was.

Have you ever wanted to “knock me down, step on my face, slander my name all over the place”? Ever wanted to “step on my blue suede shoes”?

Well, you don’t need to, because I do it for you in my May 3rd, 2009, blog bit titled “DEAR DIARRHEA... (Or, JOURNAL NOTES ABOUT A CRAPPY LOVE AFFAIR)”.

In that blog bit, posted before I was including photos or videos and relying solely on my writing (not a smart idea, to be sure), I spoke of coming across a diary I had kept back in 1970. It was filled with “stuffs” about a schoolyard crush I had on a girl named Yolanda.

True to form, the blog bit was way, Way, WAY too long. All I can say for it is that I was being A-list snarky, I was dogging myself unmercifully, and it even made me laugh . . . at myself.

If anyone is interested in visiting or revisiting that exercise in self-flagellation, here’s a link to it:

YE OLDE COMMENT POLICY: All comments, pro and con, are welcome. However, ad hominem attacks and disrespectful epithets will not be tolerated (read: "posted"). After all, this isn’t Amazon.com, so I don’t have to put up with that kind of bovine excrement.

  1. Hi Stephen, nice to meet you.

You said your Deja Vu blog was way too long - Maybe.

You said it was a snarky attempt at self abuse (can't spell either [ or not as well as you without spell check] and that f word is beyond me right now.) - Probably.

You let yourself stand there naked, in all of your 10 and 39 year old glory for everyone reading to see - Definitely.

That walk down memory lane of that 10 year old kid who obviously loved baseball and 'Ulanda'- Priceless.

  5. Absolutely loved the chronicles of Young Mr. McCarthy. April 23rd 1970 made me spit my latte, I have had that exact sentiment on many occasions. I wished I would have kept my journals--I have this bad habit of occasionally doing the "phoenix from the ashes" thing and burning them symbolically.

:o) Many thanks! Happy you found that overly long bit worth reading.

Naturally I had to go back and see what that one was about.

Had I written “decades” I would have been exaggerating ever so slightly, and I wanted to “keep it real”.

You had “journals”? But you’re a “girl” - you’re allowed to have diaries, don’tcha know?

  7. You've inspired me to dig up my old diary from 4th grade. Hope my mom didn't already chuck it.

Thanks so much for joining in the Blogfest!

  9. Couldn't find a email contact, so I came back in person(sort of).

I'll show you mine,if you'll show me yours. Ghost Stories, that is.

I'm blond and cyber-challenged.No fancy search widget on my blog. I'm lucky the words show up.

You would have to go to older posts, but I can give you the dates and they are not that far back. (This particular blog is not that old.)

    Ghost Stories: December 12/13. The rest are in October 13, 18, 20, 25, 27.

    Your turn.

Thanks! I don’t know why, but your blog loads incredibly slow for me. In fact, it never does quite completely load and I find I can only advance down through it one little mouse click at a time (it won’t “scroll”). Has anyone else reported having this problem with your blog?

Anyway, I did manage to “click” my way through that December ghost story. VERY, VERY INTERESTING!

I will try to read the others from October when I have a chance (and have mustered enough patience to “click” through them).

OK, here are URLs to the ones I have posted . . .

This first one is very long and contains multiple “ghost” stories all related to one building. All of it nonfiction:

    http://stephentmccarthysstuffs.blogspot.com/2009/10/black-cats-bad-odors-things-that-speak.html

This next one has only a single-paragraph ghost story in it. Scroll down to the section pertaining to “The Bird Cage Theatre” (which according to MANY people is haunted big time) :

    http://stephentmccarthysstuffs.blogspot.com/2010/12/tombstone-bisbee-airheadzona-nov-2010.html

The following one is not really a “ghost” story, but more of a “spiritual” story relating to how my deceased Pa sometimes “contacts” me from “the other side”:

    http://stephentmccarthysstuffs.blogspot.com/2009/04/home-in-heaven-but-i-aint-got-no.html

Incidentally, the house I primarily grew up in was definitely hosting some sort of spiritual entity as well. We all used to talk about it, but my Pa poo-pooed it. It wasn’t until we had all grown up and left the state that he later admitted that he knew all along that we were right and that “something” was in that house. He spent a couple weeks alone in it, tying up some loose ends after the rest of the family had moved out, and he said night after night he found himself walking through that house, baseball bat in hand, trying to track down an invisible intruder who was making a lot of racket.

One last thing – I saw what you wrote about The Eagles’ song “Desperado”. I’m not really a big Eagles fan, nevertheless, that very song made my list of the “fifteen and a half songs” that most accurately reflected my life from birth to age 51:

    http://stephentmccarthysstuffs.blogspot.com/2010/08/soundtrack-to-my-life-or-0-to-51-in-155.html

I look forward to reading your other ghost stories before too long. If they’re even half as interesting as that December one was, I will be spellbound.

    Thanks again.

  11. I enjoyed the Jekyll and Hyde play. I declare men 'my boyfriend' all the time when they don't even know I exist. I never run into a problem until I confront them in public with their infidelities. ;}

Ha! You made me GOL (Guffaw Out Loud).

Say, if you’re ever in need of a boyfriend, and you find me acceptable, I’ll be glad to be him for ya. But please don’t ever tell me about our relationship or I’ll start experiencing that “suffocating” feeling again. ;o)
