.

.
[Margaritas: Where sobriety goes to die.]

Dogged if I was going to let a January 1st pass by without wishing y’all a . . .

HAPPY MARGARITA DAY!

MARGARITA DAY: “A tradition since 1986, except for 1994.”

Hey, I wrote a song for this special day which comes each and every year. The song is called “IT’S MARGARITA DAY” and it’s sung to the tune of “It’s Howdy Doody Time.” The lyrics are not too terribly complicated so you should be able to learn them quickly. Here they iz:

It’s Margarita Day!
It’s Margarita Day!
Hoo-ray! - Hoo-ray! - Hoo-ray!
For Margarita Day.

It’s Margarita Day!
It’s Margarita Day!
Hoo-ray! - Hoo-ray! - Hoo-ray!
For Margarita Day.

Alright, Everybody, let’s sing it.
LOUDER! I can’t hear you!

To steal a line from ol’ Ernie ‘Mr. Cub’ Banks: "It's a beautiful day for a margarita... Let's drink two!"

  1. Thought you would appreciate the following Jose Cuervo cookies:

    Jose Cuervo New Year Cookies

    1 cup of water
    1 tsp baking soda
    1 cup of sugar
    1 tsp salt
    1 cup or brown sugar
    4 large eggs
    1 cup nuts
    2 cups of dried fruit
    1 bottle Jose Cuervo Tequila

Sample the Cuervo to check quality. Take a large bowl,
Check the Cuervo again, to be sure it is of the highest quality,
Pour one level cup and drink.

Turn on the electric mixer. Beat one cup of butter
    In a large fluffy bowl.

Add one peastoon of sugar. Beat again. At this point
it's best to make sure the Cuervo is still ok, try another
    Cup just in case.

    Turn off the mixerer thingy.

Break 2 leggs and add to the bowl and chuck in the cup
    Of dried fruit.

Pick the frigging fruit off the floor.

    Mix on the turner.

If the fried druit gets stuck in the beaters just pry
    It loose with a drewscriver.

Sample the Cuervo to check for tonsisticity.

Next, sift two cups of salt, or something.
Check the Jose Cuervo. Now shift the lemon juice and strain your nuts.

    Add one table.

Add a spoon of sugar, or somefink. Whatever you can
    Find.

    Greash the oven.

Turn the cake tin 360 degrees and try not to fall
    Over.

Don't forget to beat off the turner.

Finally, throw the bowl through the window, finish the
Cose Juervo and make sure to put the stove in the wishdasher.
    Happy New Year!

  2. Judy, Judy, Judy ~
    Ha!-Ha!
Now that's MY kind of recipe.
    Thanks!
    :o)

All that checking of the "Cose Juervo" is a good thing, because I don't like to eat on an empty stomach.

I hope yer New Year's Celebration was a good and safe one. I made it through without a hangover. But - Shhh! - please don't tell anyone as that could ruin my reputation.

  3. Oh no, I must be having a deja vu attack. I could have sworn I read this post and responded to it already.
    Am I being double billed?

  4. No, LEE, you're not being double-billed. You're still seeing double from the New Year's Margaritas.

This "Have A Margarita On New Year's Day" tradition got started in 1986 by my Pa. It's one of those stories I want to tell because there are some funny elements involved, but at the same time, it's a little too embarrassing. Who knows, maybe some year I'll have one too many Margaritas and type the damn thing up anyhow.

But for now, I just keep the tradition alive by ordering a Margarita (or two), and I think back and laugh to myself a little embarrassed sort of laugh.
